As soon as your baby enters the teething stage, it is time to introduce them to several semi-solid foods that they can chew and chomp. While offering them a wide variety of delicious foods, one must ensure to feed those dishes that are rich in all nutrients which your baby requires during the growth year.
Upma is one of that delicious and nutritious Indian food, which is best for your baby’s health.This recipe is suitable for babies aged 7–8 months.It also works well as a healthy breakfast for older kids, in which case you can add some salt for kids above 1 year.You may add vegetables to it making it all the more wholesome.
Ingredients
- Fine Sooji/Rava – 2 tbsp
- Hot Water – 1 cup
- Ghee -2 Tsp
- salt -as required
- Mustard seeds -1/8 tsp
Instructions
- Keep 1 cup of water to heat in a pan.
- Heat 2 tsp of Ghee in a pan.
- Add cumin seeds to the ghee. Once the seeds crackle,Add suji.
- Stir fry the sooji on low to medium flame for 1-2 minutes.
- Now add the boiling water slowly while stirring continuously to ensure no lumps are formed in the upma.
- Now the mixture will begin to bubble.
- Put off the flame.
- Serve the upma to your baby while it is still warm.
Notes
- Sterilize the bowls and spoons in a vessel with hot water for five minutes and keep it immersed in the same vessel before feeding your baby.
- Never introduce more than one food at a time when introducing solids to your baby.
- If your baby prefers more pouring consistency, add 1.5 cups of water.
- Fine sooji is preferable for babies, if you don’t get fine variety, grind the sooji in a mixer to a coarse powder and use.
- You can even skip tempering when you introduce but don’t skip ghee as it gives an added taste to the upma.
- Skip the salt for babies below one year.
- Always check with your doctor before giving any new food to your baby.
